Are Telcos afraid of Net Telephony?

Major Indian telecom companies have made huge profits from their telephone and mobile businesses. However, the thought of ISPs offering Net Telephony within the country is giving them sleepless nights. They think this move will eat into their revenues. When will these people understand what customer needs? Even ISPs need some space to earn and survive!

Already becoz of telecom companies, who also double up as ISPs, a lot of small internet service providers have closed shop or have sold their wares to others.......leaving a handful of standalone ISPs to fight the big telcos.....PC-to-Landline offers a chance for ISPs to provide better service to customers and earn some revenues.....its all about level playing field and fair play, elementary my dear Watson!!!!

PC-to-PC Internet Telephony....

Recent announcement of TRAI to release a consultation paper on allowing Internet Telephony within the country is a good move. Especially for an ISP like YOU Telecom, which does not have telecom licence, PC-to-PC calling will help enhance revenues as well as act as a catalyst for broadband penetration in the country....

As of now Internet Telephony under India laws is allowed for making only international calls. YOU Telecom has strong VoIP solutions and on an average clocks 2% of India's International calling minutes through Internet

Pioneering IP Phones

It was reported in the Economic Times on May 8 that Geodesic, which launched its IP phones recently, is the first company in India to offer IP phones. Please be informed that YOU Telecom has been offering VoIP services over IP phones for nearly 2 years...

YOU IP Phone

Citigroup-owned and one of India’s leading ISPs YOU Telecom has been offering VoIP services for quite some time now. In 2006 it announced YOU Call service that allowed YOU high-speed Internet subscribers call their friends and relatives abroad using an IP phone.

Given the scenario where a lot of young people are going abroad either for their studies or employment, Internet / broadband offers a cost effective solution to stay connected. It started off with emails then moved to instant messaging (Yahoo, MSN) and now VoIP.

VoIP is currently undergoing customisation. As the preferred choice of International calling, Internet telephony with its headsets and keyboards was not comfortable for people not used to such paraphernalia, especially senior citizens.

YOU Telecom gave a thought to this then emerging situation and introduced its IP phone that looks like a normal landline device and operates on an existing broadband connection. This device proved to be a great relief as it made people feel at home with button dial and gave the satisfaction of speaking over the phone.
